More details on
Summer 2011 Build
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Harris County Habitat for Humanity feels blessed to operate in a
community with so many giving, caring souls. It would be impossible to
list all the people who make our work possible, but here are a few folks
to whom we currently owe a special debt of gratitude:
- Ron Burns, from Dally Creek Tree Farm, who worked
tirelessly with his heavy equipment to clear the land so our 2011
home could be built. Ron also was able to use his heavy equipment to
help volunteers unload an 18-wheeler packed with construction
materials after our June 24 groundbreaking.
- Floyd Williams, who brought his 18-wheeler tractor and
hooked it up to our 18-wheeler trailer (fighting a stubborn, frozen
trailer braking system in the dark!), to move the trailer to where
we needed it for the Summer 2011 Build.
- Jimmy Durham, who lives near our Mann Road property, who
so graciously helped us with his backhoe to break the very dry, very
hard ground to enable our "perk test" to occur as scheduled.
We are blessed to have other professionals who plan to help
volunteer their expertise with digging our footings, installing our
electrical and more. If you have a special skill that you think
might be helpful to us, now or in the future, shoot us an email at
info@harriscountyhabitat.org.
Who we are
Harris County Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of
Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.
Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor,
better known as "sweat equity," into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving
fund that is used to build more houses. Donations needed!
Even with homeowners paying mortgages, local financial donations
are critical to our work. Contributions in the form of a check, made
out to Harris County Habitat, may be mailed to Harris
County Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 1522, Pine Mountain, Ga.
31822, or you can also donate
online.
